Skill Level: | Beginner |
Skill Details: | A beginner class will be taught from a first-time perspective. Intermediate and advanced courses require previous experience with sewing, quilting, and embroidery. These skill levels should be considered when you are registering for a course in consideration of the other attendees who will have expectations of the named skill level and would not require the instructor to teach basic skills during an advanced course or go faster/skip instruction during a beginner course. All attendees are responsible for bringing a sewing machine in good working order and knowing how to operate it. Instruction focuses on cutting (when noted), sewing techniques, and assembly of the project. |
Materials Included: | Ironing and cutting stations will be provided. Use of personal irons is limited due to availability of power outlets. |
Instructor: | Teresa Atkinson |
Instructor Bio: | Theresa Atkinson is native Floridian although travelled throughout the United States with her military parents and later in her Civil Service career. Theresa has two sons, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Both her sons are military and live out of state. Theresa began sewing in the 1970's in Home Economics classes, learning to sew clothes. All through high school she made her own clothes, Prom gowns, ROTC Ball gown and eventually her wedding dress. Then came family and career and the sewing turned to other crafts to include crocheting, knitting and cross stitch. Nearing her time to retire she took a beginner's quilting class from a fabric store in Niceville, Florida. She was subsequently transferred to Hawaii in the midst of the class. Theresa continued learning while in Hawaii from a coworker and longtime quilter. She retired from the Department of Justice (Law Enforcement) in 2008 and returned to Florida and started back with her love of sewing and quilting. When Theresa retired to Florida she bought her first Bernina/Embroidery starter machine and has not stopped yet. She eventually joined the Flying Needles Quilt Guild in Niceville, Florida where she has held several positions, Community Services Coordinator, Board Secretary, and Vice President of workshops. She actively participates in the guild’s quilt retreats and quilt shows and has taught classes to her guild members. |
