Oh, Sew Fun - Sewing Skills for Beginners Ages 9 and up

A simple project for the young sewist. These beginner sewing classes are designed to build basic sewing skills.  We will use our classroom machines - Bernina 325s.  Project kits are included in price.

June - Bowl Cozy - Bowl Cozies are great for protecting your hands from a hot bowl after heating something in the microwave.  They are also good for keeping your hands warm when you are eating something cold, like a bowl of ice cream!  They are quick and easy to make and make great gifts!  You just have to make sure that everything you put together to make them is cotton.

July - Placemat - This placemat will teach you the quilt-as-you-go technique, making it a quick and easy way to finish a project.  You will also have the opportunity to play with some decorative stitches if you choose!

August - Lanyard - A lanyard is something we can all use at some time or another.  You will be using 2 coordinating strips and sewing in stabilizer to make it sturdy.

September - Apron

October - Quilt Block Hot Pad - In this project, you will be making a quilt block, and then finishing it up by adding InsulBrite so that you can use it on your table for hot dishes.

November - Zip Pouch

December - Christmas Stocking

Instructor: Margaret Kota
Instructor Bio: Margaret started sewing as a pre-teen, making many of her own clothes as many of us used to. When she had extra money, she would go to the fabric store, pick out a pattern, and buy fabric. In addition to making clothing, she made lots of various craft projects as well as square-dance clothes for her parents. Her sewing slowed down after she got married and had kids, but as she got to the point of thinking about retirement, she re-started her hobby. What better hobby than something she had enjoyed most of her life!!! So, she talked an adult education teacher into offering a beginner quilting class. That's all it took to start a love of quilting. Eventually, she moved on to taking classes at a local quilt shop and expanded her knowledge and skills. When she started at Stitcher's Quest, she was thrilled to be working in a quilt shop and has been amazed at how much more there was to learn. She continued to learn daily from doing projects, from co-workers, and from customers! She loves new projects, new techniques, new challenges, and especially loves seeing new quilters learning and loving what they are doing!!!
